Decals: Car, Truck, Motorcycle & Boat Sticker Decoration & All Weather Transfers

Decals

Decals, or transfers, is a plastic, cloth paper or ceramic substance that has printing on it and a pattern or design that can be removed to another surface. Common decal types include vinyl peel and stick, petroleum based that transfers upon peeling off from its base and reflective vinyl with adhesive backing. Decals are commonly used on plastic models with a water-slide variety.

However, with the advent of vinyl peel and stick decals it has become increasingly popular for owners of cars, trucks, boats and motorcycles to adorn their prized possession with everything from flag and sport team decals to clever slogans and symbolic designs.

The word decal comes from decalcomania that was taken from the French "€œdecalquer" a termed coined by Simon Francois Revenet in 1750. Decalcomania described the trendy "€˜craze" of decals in the 1800's and could be used again as the fad continues to intrigue and delight drivers of many vehicles.

Today decals can be seen in the form of American flags, support our troop yellow ribbons, pirate theme flags, sport team logos including the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys and many custom designs. Decals are durable and weather resistant so applying to cars, boats and other vehicles is a clever and safe way to make a statement.

Applying decals are easy, quick and require very little labor. Before applying a decal to a car, truck, boat or motorcycle make sure to clean the area you will be placing the decal with glass cleaner or rubbing alcohol. Wait until the surface is dry. Decals apply best in temperatures between 45 and 80 degrees. Position the decal with masking tape in the manner you want it to show. Lift the sticker, backing and transfer all together. Then slowly remove the wax paper backing. Hold the decal sticker and transfer tape and use a squeegee to press firmly down on the decal to secure it to the surface. Work from the middle outward and finish by removing the masking tape and slowly pressing down on the last area firmly to complete the process.

Decals work best on flat, glossy surfaces which is why car bumpers and windshields, motorcycle crank cases, boat sides and truck windows are ideal for placing decorative decals. With a clean surface you'€™re ready to stick on American flags, stars and stripes patterns, sport team logos and emblems and just about any other design you can think of. Decals are durable and weather resistant so you won'€™t have to worry about rain, high winds and other inclement weather doing damage to your decoration.
